The dashboard cannot connect to the device

Check the device address, browser certificate trust, web server, and dashboard API in a useful order.

  • The page does not load or remains offline.
  • The interface loads but cannot retrieve device data.

Restore the dashboard connection

First decide whether the browser cannot reach the page at all or whether only the device data is unavailable. That distinction points to the web layer or the dashboard API.

  1. Confirm the device address

Check that your computer and the pyCANdo device are reachable on the same network and that you opened the current device hostname. If the hostname recently changed, use the new address.

  2. Check browser certificate trust

A certificate warning can block the dashboard and its live connections. Trust the pyCANdo certificate chain on the computer, then close and reopen the page.

  3. Separate a web-server problem from an API problem

If no page loads, check the web services. If the page loads but data does not, check the dashboard API and its logs.

    systemctl status nginx pcd-nginx pcd-pcddash-api --no-pager
    ls -la /var/log/pcd/pcddash/
  4. Reload after correcting the cause

Reload the browser after the affected service is healthy. If only live updates fail, check whether a proxy, firewall, or certificate warning is blocking WebSocket connections.
