A CAN interface or channel is unavailable

Check whether the configured CAN channel exists, is up, and matches the connected hardware.

  • A project reports that it cannot open a CAN interface.
  • No CAN traffic is received or transmitted.

Diagnose the CAN channel

Compare the project configuration with the actual device before changing code. Interface state, bitrate, and physical bus conditions are frequent causes.

  1. Compare project configuration with the device

Open the project CAN configuration and note the interface or channel name. Make sure it is the channel connected to your bus and intended by the selected project profile.

  2. List CAN interfaces

Confirm that the configured interface exists and is in the UP state.

  3. Check hardware and bus conditions

Check the adapter connection, channel selection, bitrate, wiring, and termination. A bus-off state usually points to a physical bus or bitrate mismatch rather than project code.

  4. Read the project logs

Look for the interface name and the first CAN-related error in the `pyrbs` and `pyrbs_core` logs before restarting the project.
